Jeanloup Sieff estudou literatura, jornalismo e fotografia na Vaugirard School of Photography em Paris, depois estudou em Vevey, na Suíça. Começou a sua carreira como jornalista independente em Paris, depois na revista Elle trabalhou como fotojornalista e fotógrafo de moda. A seguir a uma breve passagem pela “Magnum”, trabalhou como fotógrafo independente, vencendo o “Prix Nièpce”. Fotografou moda para todas as revistas importantes, incluido a Harper’s Bazaar, Glamour, Esquire, Look, Vogue e Twen, tanto nos EUA como na Europa.

Foi também famoso como fotógrafo de nus, sendo no entanto menos conhecido pelas suas excelentes fotografias de paisagens.
